Laura Pray grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. She began her piano study at the age of 4 and has always loved performing and competing. As a child, she participated in Solo and Ensemble Festivals and various BRMTA performance events and was selected as a winner for both the BRMTA Concerto Competition and the LMTA Rally. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University and a Masters Degree in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Laura performed numerous solo piano recitals during her time at LSU and UNCG and placed second in the North Carolina MTNA Young Artist Competition in 2006.
Laura is a state and nationally certified teacher of music. She began teaching piano in 2002 as a teaching assistant in her mother's piano studio. As a graduate assistant at UNCG, she taught class piano to undergraduate music majors. She returned to Baton Rouge in 2008 and has since taught students from ages 4 to adult. Her students have been recognized for their performance at district and state levels, including LMTA Rally, BRMTA Tournament, BRMTA Concerto and Ensemble Competition, Torgrimson/Swanzy Competiton and the LMTA Chamber Competition.
Laura has taken an active role in both local and state music teacher associations. She has held numerous positions including BRMTA President, Secretary, Vice President, Rally Chair and LMTA Webmaster. She is currently serving BRMTA as Immediate Past President. She regularly attends state and national music teacher conferences and strongly believes that professional involvement is vital to her growth as a teacher and the continued success of her students.
